This week, Alderney Airport is undergoing an extensive ground inspection. Guernsey Ports is developing plans for a complete overhaul of the existing asphalt runway, taxiway, and apron. The data collected during this survey will guide the necessary engineering designs.
The survey, which commenced on Wednesday, is expected to continue for up to five nights, with work taking place during nighttime hours.
Previous surveys have already been carried out, but Guernsey Ports noted that additional information was required to accurately assess soil strength and load-bearing capacity at specific points across the runway and apron. This detailed information will be crucial for finalizing the engineering plans.
The design proposals, informed by the survey findings, will be submitted by the Policy & Resources Committee to the States of Guernsey. The survey work is being conducted by the local company Geomarine under the supervision of project designers RPS.
