Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry recently shared a lunch with former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his wife, marking their first official diplomatic outing as a couple. A photo shared by Kishida shows the two pairs standing in front of a Christmas tree, with the former Japanese leader noting that the former Canadian prime minister visited Japan with his partner and joined my wife and me for lunch.
Perry, 41, opted for a coordinated khaki mini skirt and jacket layered over a black turtleneck, while Trudeau chose a grey suit paired with a light-blue shirt for the occasion.
Kishida, 68, reflected on their past collaborations, saying, During my time as prime minister, we met multiple times and worked together to strengthen Canada-Japan relations, including through the development of the Japan-Canada Action Plan. I am pleased that our friendship continues in this way.
Trudeau, 53, shared the same photograph on X, commenting, Wonderful to see you. Katy and I were delighted to have the opportunity to meet with you and Yuko. Thank you, Fumio, for your friendship and ongoing dedication to an international rules-based order and a brighter future for all.
The couples visit to Japan coincides with Perrys Lifetimes tour, during which they attended a sumo-wrestling event and enjoyed lunch with the Kishidas. This engagement represents one of the most formal public appearances for Trudeau and Perry since they were first seen together in July.
Their first public outing as a couple occurred in October when they attended a cabaret performance at the Crazy Horse in Paris to celebrate Perrys birthday. Perry ended her engagement with Orlando Bloom in June, and Trudeau separated from his wife of 18 years, Sophie Grgoire, in 2023. The former prime minister has three children with Grgoire, and the pair continue to co-parent amicably.
