NBA Champion Elden Campbell's Death Cause Unveiled Following Fishing Accident at 57

Former Los Angeles Lakers star Elden Campbell passed away at the age of 57 after experiencing a medical emergency during a fishing trip on December 1. According to the Broward County Medical Examiner, Campbell's death was ruled an accidental drowning.

Campbell's sister shared on December 3 that he "wasn't sick" and that the family is unsure what led to his sudden passing. The Broward County Sheriffs Office also confirmed the death was accidental.

The NBA champion, who played alongside legends like Shaquille ONeal and Kobe Bryant, is survived by his wife Rosemary, four childrenJay Lee, Jael, Ariel, and Aaronand his siblings Sandra, Elwayne, and Charles Jr.

During an interview, Sandra Campbell recounted that her brother had returned to shore from fishing when he collapsed unexpectedly. It was all so sudden. He wasnt sick, she said. He was out fishing. We just dont know what happened. She described him as a pillar and cornerstone of our family who will be deeply missed.

Campbells family released a statement reflecting on his life, noting that he passed while engaged in one of his favorite activities. They remembered him as a man devoted to family, generous, humorous, disciplined, and kind, but firm when necessary. A man of God, he spent his last moments fishing, enjoying his ideal day.

His passing was first announced on December 3 by Clemson University, his alma mater, and the Detroit Pistons, where he played for two seasons. The Pistons said, We are deeply saddened by the loss of Elden Campbell, a key member of our 2004 NBA Championship team. Beyond his on-court contributions, Eldens warmth and calm presence endeared him to teammates, fans, and the community. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Magic Johnson, who played with Campbell during parts of the 1990, 1991, and 1996 seasons, shared on social media, I loved throwing lobs to Elden because he could jump out of the gym. Cookie and I are praying for his family and Lakers Nation as they mourn. Rest in peace, Big E!
