The Venezuelan government has strongly rejected escalating pressure from the United States, following statements made by former President Donald Trump on Saturday, declaring that Venezuelan airspace would be entirely off-limits. Caracas labeled Trumps remarks a colonialist threat to its sovereignty, accusing the US of breaching international law. The government demanded respect for its airspace and emphasized that it will not tolerate foreign threats or directives.
Trump Orders Airspace Closure
Trump wrote on Truth Social: To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers, please consider the airspace above and surrounding Venezuela to be closed in its entirety. The announcement led Venezuela to unilaterally suspend all migrant deportation flights, a practice that has been a controversial element of the Trump administrations mass deportation policies. The US Department of Defense has yet to comment on the matter.
