After 27 years, the United Kingdom welcomed a German state visit, as King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife, First Lady Elke Bdenbender. This visit occurred nearly two years after the royal couples trip to Germany, which marked Charless first state visit abroad and made him the first British monarch to address the German Bundestag. A state banquet was held on the first evening of the visit, as is customary. Both King Charles and President Steinmeier were expected to deliver toasts during the dinner.
