Emerald Fennell Wants ‘Wuthering Heights’ to Be The "Titanic" of This Generation & Margot Robbie Assures Film Is Not as "Raunchy" as Expected

As the premiere of Wuthering Heights approaches, director Emerald Fennell expresses high hopes for the film, which stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. Fennell aims for the adaptation to become a cinematic event that audiences will return to repeatedly in theatres.

Recalling Fennells vision, Robbie shared with British Vogue, I want this to be this generations Titanic. I once watched Romeo & Juliet eight times in the cinema, and I was devastated when I couldnt see it a ninth. Thats the kind of experience I hope audiences have. She added that the film is perfect for group outings, especially with friends, and could make for an exceptional date movie.

The recently released trailer included intense and steamy moments, which initially surprised viewers. Robbie, however, emphasized that the film is not as explicit as some might assume. People expect it to be very raunchy. While it certainly has sexual and provocative elements, it leans more toward romance than shock, she explained. This is a grand, epic love story, reminiscent of classics like The Notebook or The English Patient. Its about that overwhelming emotional punchthe kind that literally takes your breath away. Thats Emeralds signature: whether it stirs excitement or discomfort, she evokes a strong, physical response.

Wuthering Heights is set to hit cinemas on February 13, 2026.
