Jennifer Meyer, Tobey Maguire's Former Spouse, Speaks Openly About Their Divorce: We 'Had to Overcome Some Big Hurdles'

Jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer has spoken candidly about her divorce from actor Tobey Maguire and how their relationship has evolved nearly a decade after their separation.

Meyer, 48, shared her thoughts during the December 1 episode of The Inside Edit podcast with host Maeve Reilly. She revealed that navigating their split after separating in 2016 was challenging, but they managed to maintain a strong connection. "It wasnt easy every day, and Im sure he would say the same," she admitted, adding that she now considers Maguire my best friend.

The couple married in 2007 and finalized their divorce in 2020. They share two children: daughter Ruby, 19, and son Otis, 16. Meyer reflected on raising their children during difficult times, noting that their daughter was around 10 and their son 7 when the split occurred. "Youre raising kids at an intense time. But he is wonderful and I got lucky for that," she said. "We definitely had to overcome some big hurdles."

Meyer credited Gwyneth Paltrow with helping her see the potential benefits of a mindful separation. She recalled visiting Paltrows home in Los Angeles after Paltrow and ex Chris Martin had separated, admiring how they remained amicable co-parents. Paltrow introduced Meyer to Dr. Habib Sadeghi, who provided guidance on managing divorce. "Everyone was making fun of conscious uncoupling at the time, but jokes on them," Meyer said. She later suggested to Maguire, "Hey, were going to go to couples therapy."

Today, Meyer described her ex-husband as supportive and generous. "I now have an ex-husband who is my best friend and would do anything for me, and I would do anything for him," she said. Reilly added that Maguire is supportive and lovely and the best dad.

Meyer also highlighted the strong bond between Maguire and her fianc, Geoffrey Ogunlesi. She recalled staying with Maguire and one of his friends during the Los Angeles wildfires, calling the experience a dream.

The designer emphasized the personal growth she gained from the divorce. "I actually think that my divorce has been one of my greatest teachers, because it teaches you patience," she said, reflecting on how challenges can strengthen family connections.
