Matthew Perry's parents have voiced sharp criticism at the doctor involved in their son's death, following his sentencing for drug-related offenses. Perry's mother and stepfather, Suzanne and Keith Morrison, labeled the physician, Salvador Placenscia, as "most responsible" for the tragic loss. Similarly, the actor's father and stepmother, John and Debby Perry, also publicly condemned the doctor's actions.
Earlier this year, Dr. Placenscia admitted guilt to distributing ketamine linked to Matthew Perrys passing and was subsequently sentenced to 2.5 years in prison.
Parents Condemn Those Connected to Perry's Death
In letters submitted to the court, obtained by Rolling Stone, Suzanne and Keith Morrison detailed their profound grief and criticized the individuals responsible for their son's overdose. They described their efforts to protect Perry, only to see those attempts undermined by "greedy opportunists."
The couple singled out Placenscia for his direct role, highlighting his distribution and administration of ketamine to Perry. They described him as "among the most culpable," emphasizing the doctors betrayal and greed.
The Actor Deserved a 'Third Act'
The Morrisons reflected on Perry's unrealized potential, lamenting that he never got the "third act" he deserved after battling addiction. They wrote that his story inspired many and that he had hoped for a meaningful continuation of his life, which was tragically cut short by those exploiting his vulnerabilities.
They further criticized Placenscia for exploiting Perry for monetary gain, referencing incriminating messages from the doctor's phone, which revealed his callous disregard for the actors struggles.
Father and Stepmother Echo Condemnation
John and Debby Perry also issued a victim impact statement, praising Matthew as a loving man and family anchor. They implored the court to impose a severe sentence on the doctor, questioning his moral and professional judgment in repeatedly supplying Perry with dangerous doses.
The pair asked how many others might have suffered due to Placenscias actions and urged the court to extend his sentence beyond the minimum, highlighting the severity of his misconduct.
Doctor Receives Prison Sentence
Placenscia had been scheduled for trial in August but entered a plea agreement in July, avoiding multiple charges related to ketamine distribution and record falsification. The plea deal still left him facing up to 10 years in prison. On December 3, the judge sentenced him to 30 months behind bars. Placenscia appeared in court wearing a navy suit, looking somber as he received his sentence.
Other Individuals Connected to Perrys Death
Several others implicated in Perry's death have also reached plea deals. Dr. Mark Chavez, whom Placenscia recruited, as well as Perry's assistant Kenneth Iwamasa and friend Erik Flemming, will be sentenced in early January. Jasveen Sangha, known as the "Ketamine Queen" and a primary supplier, is scheduled for sentencing later this month after pleading guilty to multiple charges.
