'CNN Fact-Checker Exposes Trump's 13 Lies During Cabinet Meeting'

CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale critically examined 13 inaccurate statements made by President Donald Trump during a lengthy Cabinet meeting on Tuesday. The session, which marked Trumps final Cabinet meeting of the year, was broadcast live on CNNs Inside Politics.

Anchor Dana Bash briefly cut away as Trump moved around the room, delivering his usual praise to agency leaders. While waiting for the Q&A segment, Bash invited Dale to review what had been said so far. Dale noted that the president had delivered a whole lot of lies on a whole lot of subjects, highlighting five examples in that initial segment.

After the meeting ended, Dale published a more extensive list of 13 false claims on his X/Twitter account:

  • Trump claimed he secured over $18 trillion in investment commitments since returning to office, nearly double the $9.6 trillion cited by the White House, which itself appears significantly exaggerated.
  • He asserted that grocery prices are falling, when in fact they increased 2.7% year-over-year as of September and 1.4% since January.
  • He claimed prescription drug prices are being cut by 500% to 900%, an impossible figure that would suggest people are paid to obtain medications.
  • He stated that every military attack on a supposed drug-smuggling vessel saves an average of 25,000 lives, a number experts consider implausible and unsupported.
  • He said he stopped inflation in its tracks since January, although the September year-over-year inflation rate remained at 3.0%, nearly unchanged from January.
  • Trump claimed he inherited the worst inflation ever, though the rate he inherited was 3%, far from a historical peak, and the Biden-era high of 9.1% in June 2022 was also not all-time record.
  • He asserted he ended eight wars, including conflicts that did not exist during his presidency, and cited an ongoing war in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo as ended.
  • He claimed China doesnt have gasoline, whereas the country does refine oil into gasoline despite not meeting total domestic demand.
  • He said under Biden, by 2030, everyone must own an electric car, which misrepresents Bidens EV policy that aimed for 56% of new vehicles to be electric by 2032 but included no ownership mandate.
  • Trump stated the US provided $350 billion in wartime aid to Ukraine, while official figures show $187 billion appropriated for the war response through June.
  • He claimed Washington, DC currently has no murders, a statement inaccurate even before recent attacks on National Guard troops.
  • He alleged the 2020 election was fraudulent, which is false; he lost the election.
  • He stated his major domestic policy bill included no tax on Social Security, though it only temporarily raised the standard deduction for those 65+, leaving many still liable for taxes on benefits.

Dale provided further analysis online, and the full meeting can be viewed on CNNs Inside Politics.
