Following the LA Dodgers 2025 World Series victory in early November, Jason Kelce expressed sharp criticism, prompting a rebuttal from the teams president. On his New Heights podcast with his brother Travis Kelce, Jason suggested that baseball is losing its integrity because teams simply purchase championships.
Stan Kasten, the Dodgers president and co-owner, addressed these remarks during a recent podcast interview. Appearing on The Windup on November 12, hosts Jayson Stark and Doug Glanville spoke with Kasten about the Dodgers World Series triumph and asked for his reaction to Kelces comments.
Jason Kelce had said on November 6, Well, yeah, thats why baseball sucks! You just buy World Series championships. Its the dumbest thing in the world. Kasten countered, emphasizing that history contradicts Kelces claim: the teams with the highest payroll often do not win the World Series.
He added, quoting fellow Philadelphia athlete Bryce Harper, The only people complaining are losers. I think hes exactly right.
Kasten went on to explain the foundation of the Dodgers success, stating, Our position, being able to contend in the World Series in multiple ways, isnt just about having a high payroll. Players need leadership, development, and a consistently productive farm system.
He concluded, Simply purchasing a championship wouldnt work. Success requires a combination of resources, talent, and strategy. Without all of these, no team could achieve what we have.
The Dodgers response highlights the multifaceted approach behind their 2025 World Series win, countering the notion that financial power alone guarantees success.
