Warriors Share Update on Jimmy Butler Following Departure from Thunder Game

The Golden State Warriors are maintaining a roughly even record early in the 202526 season, standing at 1110 as they faced the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday. Optimism remains high in Golden State, with point guard Steph Curry performing at an elite level and veterans Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green providing key support.

Butler, in his first full season with the Warriors following a mid-season trade from the Miami Heat last year, has been a standout on both offense and defense. The 36-year-old forward continues to be a perimeter defensive anchor while shooting efficiently from all ranges. Over 19 games, Butler is averaging 20.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 1.6 steals, with shooting splits of 52.7% from the field, 43.6% from three, and 85.6% from the free-throw line.

During the game against the Thunder, Butler had a slow start, scoring only six points on 2-of-7 shooting in the first half, along with three rebounds and one assist in 15 minutes. Compounding the situation, he appeared to sustain an ankle issue in the second quarter and limped to the locker room with 6:36 left. He briefly returned before halftime, providing hope that he might continue, but did not start the second half. Gary Payton replaced him in the lineup.

Initially, Butler's absence seemed tied to Golden States 6344 halftime deficit, but it became clear he was not on the bench at all. The team later confirmed that Butler would not return due to a left knee issue.

Jimmy Butler III (sore left knee) will not return to tonights game, the Warriors stated on X.

If Butler needs to sit out for a longer period, the Warriors roster depth will be challenged, as his scoring and defensive impact are difficult to replace. Since joining Golden State, Butler has integrated smoothly, complementing Currys offense with his two-way contributions and veteran leadership. Known for elevating his game in the postseason, Butler is now with his fifth NBA team. As he approaches the latter stages of his career, maintaining his health is critical. Updates on his condition are expected as the situation develops.
