The Los Angeles Lakers' impressive seven-game winning streak came to an end on Monday as they fell 125-108 to the Phoenix Suns at home.
LeBron James, who sat out Sundays game against the New Orleans Pelicans to manage a left knee issue, spoke to reporters following the loss and made a striking three-word comment regarding his condition.
Its called old, James said when discussing his ongoing left foot injury management. You just wake up with [pain] that you didnt have the night before.
Returning to the court after missing one game, James contributed 10 points and three assists in the 17-point defeat, but his admission highlighted the physical challenges that come with age. While he acknowledged the natural changes in an athletes body, fans may have hoped for a different explanation for his absence against the Pelicans.
Despite the concerns, James has no plans to retire mid-season. The 21-time All-Star remains focused on maintaining his body to help keep the Lakers competitive as they approach the postseason.
Although its clear that aging makes recovery and performance more difficult, its far from a sign that the Lakers prospects are in jeopardy.
