A man has been charged with terrorism-related offenses in connection with the ongoing investigation into an attack on a synagogue in Manchester. Mohammad Asim Bashir, 31, from Cheetham Hill, has been charged with one count of preparing for terrorist acts and three counts of distributing terrorist publications.

The attack, carried out by Jihad Al-Shamie, took place at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue in Manchester on Yom Kippur, the most sacred day in the Jewish faith.

According to Greater Manchester Police, Bashir, a British Pakistani, was acquainted with the attacker, Al-Shamie, but was not directly involved in the assault on October 2. Bashir is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Frank Ferguson, from the Crown Prosecution Service, confirmed that there was enough evidence to charge Bashir with preparing acts of terrorism and for sharing terrorist materials with Al-Shamie and others with the intent to incite terrorism.
