Putin's first visit to India since invasion of Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in New Delhi on Thursday for a two-day official visit, marking his first trip to India since the onset of the conflict in Ukraine. Upon arrival, Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi were seen exchanging a warm greeting on the airport tarmac, local outlets reported.

The visit commenced with a private dinner between the two leaders, and will continue on Friday with the 23rd India-Russia summit. The discussions are expected to center on strengthening bilateral ties, with particular attention to trade and energy cooperation.

Both nations aim to further develop their "special and privileged strategic partnership," according to reports. India remains a major importer of Russian oil, which contributes to Russia's revenue streams amid the ongoing conflict in Ukrainean issue Modi has consistently urged to resolve peacefully.

Putin's arrival at Palam Air Base was formally greeted by Prime Minister Modi, highlighting the significance of the visit in maintaining and advancing diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries.
