TAIPEI, Dec 2 (Reuters) - Taiwan's prosecutors announced on Tuesday that they have formally charged the Taiwan branch of Tokyo Electron with breaches of the National Security Act and the Trade Secrets Act. This follows the indictment of a former employee accused of misappropriating confidential information from chipmaker TSMC.
According to the prosecutors, if found guilty, the Taiwan unit could face penalties reaching T$120 million ($3.82 million). Requests for comment from Tokyo Electron and its Taiwan branch have not yet been addressed.
In August, Tokyo Electron stated that it had not verified any organizational involvement after the former employee was indicted in Taiwan.
