Matthew Perry's Physician Receives 30-Month Sentence for Distributing Ketamine

Salvador Plasencia, the physician who provided ketamine to Matthew Perry in the weeks preceding the actors overdose in 2023, was sentenced on Wednesday to 30 months in federal prison. Before the sentence was delivered in a Los Angeles federal court, Plasencia expressed remorse to Perrys family, acknowledging that he had failed in his duty to care for the star.

I failed Mr. Perry. I failed his family, Plasencia stated. I should have protected him. Following the sentencing, federal marshals handcuffed Plasencia and took him into custody.

Prosecutors had recommended a three-year prison term, while the defense requested probation. Judge Sherilyn Peace Garrett dismissed the defenses claim that Plasencias initial intent was to treat Perrys depression. I dont find that rings true, she remarked, noting that the doctor appeared to have sought to profit from Perrys addiction.

Text messages revealed Plasencia discussing Perrys ketamine request, including a remark, I wonder how much this moron will pay. During her victim impact statement, Perrys mother, Suzanne Morrison, addressed the doctor directly: This is my boy. I know how addicted he was. He survived it all To be called a moron theres nothing moronic about that man This was a bad thing you did.

Perrys half-sister, Madeline Morrison, also spoke, highlighting the familys grief and accusing Plasencia of exploiting the actors vulnerabilities. Celebrities are not just plastic dolls you can take advantage of, she said. Theyre people.

Judge Garrett clarified that Plasencia was not responsible for administering the fatal dose of ketamine. Several other individuals connected to Perrys death are still awaiting sentencing.
