The Los Angeles Chargers and quarterback Justin Herbert entered Sundays matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders aiming to recover from a crushing 356 defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Early in the first quarter, Herbert connected with wide receiver Quentin Johnston on a 10-yard crossing touchdown pass, giving the Chargers a 70 advantage and briefly igniting hope for a comeback.
However, that optimism was short-lived. During the drive, Herbert suffered an injury to his non-throwing left hand after taking a hit, prompting his exit to the locker room for evaluation. He was officially listed as questionable to return, with backup Trey Lance stepping in as the medical team examined Herberts hand.
Herbert did return in the early moments of the second quarter, wearing a padded glove and taped fingers, and helped stabilize the Chargers offense. Following the game, head coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed that Herbert has a fracture in his left hand and will undergo a medical procedure on Monday. When questioned about his availability for future games, Harbaugh said it was uncertain and that they would monitor the situation throughout the week.

Herbert himself expressed optimism about returning for the Chargers upcoming Monday night matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, one of the seasons most crucial games for Los Angeles. Despite the hand injury scare, Herbert finished the game completing 15 of 20 passes for 151 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. The Chargers secured a 31-14 victory, improving to 8-4 overall and maintaining a perfect record in AFC West play this season.
While the win is encouraging, Herberts hand injury remains a major concern. As the Chargers face a challenging schedule, including upcoming games against the Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, and Denver Broncos, Herberts health is crucial for the teams playoff positioning and continued success in the AFC West.
