Relatives accused in killing of pregnant woman in Michigan

Authorities have charged two relatives in the death of a pregnant woman in Michigan after claims emerged that she was enticed to a residence and subjected to torture in an attempt to forcibly remove her unborn child, according to the Michigan Department of Attorney General.

Cortney Bartholomew, 40, and Bradly Bartholomew, 47, both residents of Boon, Michigan, appeared Tuesday in the 84th District Court in Cadillac to face multiple felony counts tied to the killing of 22-year-old Rebecca Park from Manton, officials reported.

It is alleged that on November 3, the couple lured Park, Cortney Bartholomews biological daughter who was nearly full-term in her pregnancy, to their home in Wexford County. According to the attorney general's office, Park was then tortured in an effort to remove her unborn child, leading to the deaths of both mother and baby. Following an extensive search, Parks remains were discovered in Manistee National Forest on November 25.

Attorney General Dana Nessel expressed condolences, stating, "Rebecca had her whole life ahead of her, and our thoughts are with her family during this unimaginable tragedy. We are dedicated to working with the Wexford County Prosecuting Attorneys Office to ensure swift justice."

Cortney and Bradly Bartholomew have been formally charged with first-degree murder, felony murder, torture, and additional serious charges, each carrying the possibility of a life sentence. Wexford County Prosecutor Johanna Carey described the case as an extremely disturbing homicide, emphasizing the severe suffering endured by Park and her unborn child and the extraordinary level of violence involved. She added that while these charges are allegations until proven, the evidence demonstrates a shocking disregard for human life.

The prosecution is being conducted by the Wexford County Prosecuting Attorneys Office with support from the Michigan Department of Attorney General.
