A 30-year-old man has been taken into custody after a woman in her twenties reported being sexually assaulted inside a tent in Manchester city centre.

The incident reportedly occurred on Friday evening, 28 November, at Lincoln Square. Police were informed about the alleged assault on Saturday afternoon when the victim approached officers who were responding to a nearby disturbance in the area.

The suspect has since been released on bail under the condition that he must not enter the city centre.

GMP Superintendent Nicola Williams stated, "We are committed to uncovering the full circumstances of this case in order to hold the perpetrator accountable."

Investigation Details

Authorities believe that the man and the woman had an initial conversation in Lincoln Square before entering the tent where the alleged assault took place. No additional suspects are being sought at this time.

Superintendent Williams emphasized, "Our main focus is supporting the victim through this difficult and distressing period. We are working alongside specialist support services to gather detailed information and secure strong evidence to pursue a successful prosecution."

She added that while formal charges have not yet been filed, police are coordinating with the Crown Prosecution Service to prepare a case for court.

Increased Police Presence

Additional patrols have been deployed across Manchester on Friday and Saturday nights to enhance safety and reassure women and girls in the city centre during nighttime activities.

"We know many residents and visitors enjoy Manchester's nightlife weekly, and officers will continue to be visible to ensure public safety," Superintendent Williams said.
