Arctic cold front sweeps through the Midwest and Northeast: Current weather forecast

The Midwest and Northeast are facing a significant drop in temperatures as a strong arctic front moves eastward. Early Thursday, Chicago is expected to see temperatures around 5F, Minneapolis near -4F, Green Bay, Wisconsin at -1F, and Kansas City, Missouri at 8F.

On Friday, the cold will intensify with temperatures predicted to reach 1F in Chicago, 8F in Detroit, 10F in Pittsburgh, 14F in Boston, and 21F in New York. Cities like Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Portland, Maine, may experience record-setting low temperatures for the day.

While the weekend will bring slightly milder conditions, temperatures in the North and Northeast will remain below seasonal averages. Forecasts suggest unseasonably chilly weather may persist into the following week.

In the western United States, winter storm warnings are active for Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico on Wednesday. Snowfall between 3 and 13 inches is expected, which is beneficial for mountain regions that have seen below-average snow this season. Denver could receive 3 to 6 inches, with higher totals in the surrounding elevated areas.
